Multiplex tops contracts league with £400m office job

Multiplex came top of last month’s contracts rankings after securing a £400m deal to build a new office tower in the City of London.

The 24-storey tower, known as the Dovetail building, will provide 450,000 sq ft of office space.

Murphy ranked second also with a single contract for a major infrastructure project. Its £340m upgrade of Oxford Sewage Treatment Works will improve capacity by 40% and improve effluent quality that goes into the River Thames at the end of the sewage treatment cycle.

Builder Bowmer & Kirkland ranked third with a haul of four projects including the £95m phase 1 of of Cheltenham’s £1bn Golden Valley cyber campus deing developed by Henry Boot. The firm also chalked up two secondary schools jobs at Bromford in Essex and Lincoln Castle Academy as well as fire safety improvements at HMP Norwich.

Across the wider market, the top 50 contractors saw new orders in July improve to around £3.21bn, slightly up from June’s total of around £3.1bn with 112 projects secured against 93 in the previous month.

In the rolling 12-month rankings of work won, Strabag held top spot, buoyed by its £3bn single order for the multiple project Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme in the North West. Mace conitnued to rank second with Balfour Beatty placed third, according to data compiled by Barbour ABI.
